The different polymeric materials present in the mixture of wastes obtain opposite polarities after tribocharging and get deflected in the electrical field as per polarities and they can be segregated as shown in Fig. 7. The non-metal fractions such as plastics of PCBs and cables recovered from WEEE can be segregated through triboelectrostatic process. Jeon et al. (2009) developed simple and inexpensive triboelectrostatic technique for recovering PVC and rubber from scrap cables, wherein PVC and rubber materials get deflected into the positive electrode and negative electrode respectively. Similar techniques were also used by the Li et al. (2015) in order to analyse the charging properties of crushed plastic granules such as ABS, PC, PS, PE, PP and PVC from WEEE including computer parts. They have formulated triboelectrical series as () PE-PS-PC-PVC-ABS-PP- (+), besides these studies which indicates that factors such as particle size, relative humidity have effect on the charging properties of waste plastic granule. The triboelectrostatic technology is also applicable to the polymeric materials such as HIPS and ABS, which are considered as having the maximum polymeric content in computer waste stream.
